Q. Location of Water Valves. Water Valves, are always located on the back of the washer.  They can be in different locations on the back, depending on model, but they all function in the same manner, that is to allow water, Hot and Cold, into the machine.  They operate on the princible of water pressure and elecrical solenoid, diaphram functions, opening and closing from electrical current sent to them from devices in the washer such as the timer, and switches and other components.  But they can be tested directly,  with only an Ohmmeter!
